Netflix is an ever-changing database of movies and television shows available all over the world. If you have a TV or monitor equipped with 3D capabilities and and are interested in finding 3D movies on Netflix, you’ll have to do a little digging. Fortunately, we covered that part for you: this list contains 3D movies available for streaming on Netflix in the US and other countries of the world plus their Netflix availability, ratings, director, main cast, plot lines, and trailer.

1. Beowulf (2007)

Starring Robin Wright, Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie and Ray Winstone as Beowulf, this is the story of a great warrior who must defeat the monsters that are tormenting Denmark. Beowulf was originally written in Old English and is credited as being the oldest English language story ever written down.

Fun fact: motion capture is used throughout the film, meaning that actors had to dress up in skin tight suits with computer sensors attached. Animation was then overlaid on the images.

2. Saving Santa (2013)

A stable elf in Santa’s North Pole workshop must use his ingenuity to save Santa with the help of a time traveling device to go back in time in an attempt to stop Santa from being kidnapped.

It’s voiced by classic actors Tim Curry and Tim Conway as well as Martin Freeman, who played Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit trilogy.

3. A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures (2010)

This animated movie tells the story of Sammy the sea turtle who is traveling the world and experiencing the effects of global warming. It’s voiced by Melanie Griffith, Anthony Anderson, Dominic Cooper and known environmentalist Ed Begley Jr. The adventure continued in 2012 with sequel A Turtle’s Tale 2: Sammy’s Escape From Paradise as well as a TV series titled Sammy & Company in 2014.

Fun fact: Greenpeace was a sponsor of this film and is even featured in the movie battling a whaling ship!

Although not the best overall, this is one of the best kids’ 3D movies on Netflix.

4. Flying Swords of Dragon Gate (2011)

Starring Jet Li, this movie tells the story of a group of nefarious people who work at an inn by day and search for a fabled lost city by night. This film is the sequel to the 1992 movie Dragon Inn, taking place about three years after the events of the first movie.

The movie had an estimated budget of $35,000,000 and only made $127,709  in gross earnings after its release on August 31st, 2012.

5. Immortals (2011)

Zeus chooses a mortal man named Theseus, played by Superman Henry Cavill, to defeat a ruthless king who is hunting for a weapon that can destroy all of humanity. Given the intriguing plot, it should go without saying that this is one of the best 3D movies on Netflix.

The movie also stars Mickey Rourke and John Hunt and had an estimated budget of $75,000,000, making it one of the most expensive 3D movies on Netflix; however, it made $83,503,161 in gross earnings in 2012 when it originally came out.

6. The Hole (2009)

After moving from Brooklyn to a farmhouse far out in the country, two brothers, along with their attractive neighbor, stumble upon a deep hole that they find in their basement. Once they uncover the hole, mysterious events start to plague them and they begin to wonder if the hole is a gateway to Hell.

The production is starring Chris Massoglia, Haley Bennett, and Nathan Gamble and had an estimated budget of $12,000,000 according to IMDb.

7. Dino King (2012)

Trivia: This kids’ movie is packed with Lion King references.

8. Sadako 2 (2012)

A 24 year old grad student, Fuko, takes guardianship of her 4 year old niece. When strange stories start to unfold, Fuko uncovers mysterious events of the past and must figure out how to save her niece and herself from dark forces.

This film is a sequel to the film franchise ‘Ringu’, which was adapted in the US into ‘The Ring’ series. It stars Miori Takimoto,  Kôji Seto, and Kokoro Hirasawa.

9. Animals United (2010)

With voice acting from heavy hitters such as Vanessa Redgrave and Jim Broadbent, this animated movie tells the tale of a group of animals who must band together in the hunt for water in the African desert. However, their water source is cut off by human development. Since it’s an animation that also features the voice of Stephen Fry, it’s definitely one of the best 3D movies on Netflix.


Even though the selection of 3D movies on Netflix is lightweight to say the least, the streaming service is committed to extend the availability of its existing movies and add new productions on a monthly basis. Our favorite pick from this list is The Hole; what’s yours?
