DirectorCatherine Corsini
Runtime: 1 hour 45 minutes
IMDb Rating: 6.6
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 93%

The action takes place in Paris, 1971 and tells the story of Carole (Cécile De France) – a Spanish teacher and feminist living in Paris and Delphine (Izïa Higelin), who comes from a family of farmers. Against all odds, the worlds of the two women clash and they fall madly in love with each other. But as things rarely stay perfect for long, Delphine’s father has a stroke and she needs to return to her family’s farmhouse to help her mother. As their relationship became so intimate over a short time span, the distance was not working for either of them so Delphine decided to join her in the countryside. The movie then goes on to show us how the countryside received feminism and lesbianism, two new and partially frowned upon concepts.

Catherine Corsini, the director of this movie, confessed the characters were named after two French artists and feminists: Carole Roussopoulos and Delphine Seyrig. This touch of realism in an age that was against LGBT movements is what makes Summertime one of the best lesbian movies on Netflix.
