Unless you’re a fan of ‘90s comedies, this flick might not be for you. If you are, this might just be one of your Netflix top comedies.

One of the best good comedy movies on Netflix, Tommy Boy tells the story of a big man-child attempting to save his father’s car parts business with the help of the latter’s ex-right-hand man. If not the best, Frank is certainly one of the most imaginative good comedies on Netflix.

Full of catchy music, great performances, and innovative ideas, the movie is something that will stick with you for quite some time after you first watch. Michael Fassbender does a brilliant job expressing himself throughout the movie, especially seeing as he’s wearing a big cardboard head over his own for all of its duration.

He even went so far as to make an homage to the classic cinematic masterpiece in his 2009 Star Trek remake. And that makes him one of the many directors to do so.

Starring Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, as well a bunch of then-emerging stars, Galaxy Quest is a true masterpiece. Despite being a satire of space flicks such as Lost in Space and Starship Troopers, as well as TV shows such as Star Trek, Galaxy Quest delivers some the best sci-fi plots and honest laughs you’ll have in ages.

It happens to be directed by Eli Craig, and it is definitely one of the best good comedies on Netflix. According to the movie’s tagline, it’s the perfect love story with a high body count.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil starts out as a typical hillbilly horror movie, but with a twist. Tucker and Dale are two well-meaning hillbillies who go to a fixer-upper cabin on vacation. There, they meet a bunch of preppy college kids who assume that they are inbred serial killers, and everything takes a turn for the bloody.

4. Clerks

IMDb Rating: 7.8
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 88%
MPAA Rating: R
Streaming on: Netflix Austria, Germany, France, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway; Unfortunately, this production is no longer available on Netflix US.

Very divisive among movie-goers, Clerks is the directorial debut of long-time comic book enthusiast and all-around cool geek Kevin Smith. It also marked the beginnings of the View Askewniverse, as well as those of Jay and Silent Bob. The strange thing about the movie is that despite the fact that it’s considered one of the smartest comedies of all time, you either love it or you hate it.

Despite the fact that most of the flick’s cast went on to bigger and greater things, Clerks’ alumni were mostly no-namers back in 1994, when the movie was first released. You might recognize Brian O’Halloran as Dante, Jeff Anderson as Randal, and Jason Mewes as Jay and Kevin Smith himself as Silent Bob. Telling the story of two Quick Stop employees on one of their most busy days, Clerks has all the makings of a true cult classic.

3. Hot Fuzz

Director: Edgar Wright
Runtime: 2 hours 1 minute
IMDb Rating: 7.8
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 91%
MPAA Rating: R

The middle entry of the Three Flavor Cornetto Trilogy, Hot Fuzz is one of the best cop comedy movies of all times. This makes also one of the best good comedies on Netflix. Directed by Edgar Wright, written by Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg, and starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Martin Freeman, Hot Fuzz is how you make British comedy right.

Telling the story of Nicholas Angel, a top-tier London cop who is relocated to a small, quiet town in order to stop making the rest of the force look bad, Hot Fuzz blends comedy, mystery, and action with great writing, spot-on acting, and just enough ridiculousness to make this the perfect comedy.

2. In Bruges

Release Date on Netflix: October 2013
Director: Martin McDonagh
Runtime: 1 hour 47 minutes
IMDb Rating: 7.9
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 84%

Written and directed by Martin McDonagh (also known for Seven Psychopaths), In Bruges stars Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes, and Clémence Poésy. While it’s mostly a crime movie, In Bruges has just enough ridiculous and hilarious scenes to also be considered a comedy despite its grittiness and truly tragic background plot.

One of those movies about which you know they cannot have a happy ending, In Bruges introduces us to two hitmen, Ray and Ken, working for their boss, Harry. After Ray commits a tragic mistake during his first assignment, the two are sent to lay low in Bruges for a while. Their lives, as well as those of the people they meet during their stay in Bruges are forever changed.

1. Groundhog Day

Release Date on Netflix: March 2015
Director: Harold Ramis
Runtime: 1 hour 41 minutes
IMDb Rating: 8
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96%
MPAA Rating: PG
Streaming on: Netflix USA, Brazil, France, Germany, Austria, Sweden, and the Netherlands

Considered the ultimate comedy by most moviegoers around the globe, Groundhog Day is not just one of the good comedies on Netflix, but probably the best movie on this list. Directed by the late Harold Ramis, and starring Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, and Chris Elliott, this 1993 comedy has so far been unrivaled.

Inspiring an incredible amount of homages and stand-alone productions, Groundhog Day was one of the first instances of time loops being used in pop culture. Bill Murray does a phenomenal job of making us feel the despair of his character, as he lives through what fans theorized as being hundreds of years worth of the same day.
