What’s New to Netflix in October 2019, and What’s Leaving the Stream

It’s the spooking season, so we’re expected some chills and thrills from our entertainment this month. So, what’s in store from Netflix in October 2019? How does our favorite streaming service plan to haunt subscribers?

Horror for Halloween

Of course, we can expect plenty of horror movies and Halloween themed shows and movies from Netflix in October 2019.

Best of all, the content this Halloween runs the gamut from really scary to cute and spooky.

Like most Halloween fare, they have everything from straight horror flicks to gothic chillers to creepy kids shows with a low-scare quotient.

Notable Netflix Originals

Not only have they provided a preview reel, but there are plenty of new and original Halloween themed shows and movies directly from Netflix in October 2019.

‘Creeped Out’

This British kid’s anthology show is a new series from Netflix Originals, and it looks terrific for young and old alike. According to Netflix: “A masked figure known as ‘The Curious’ collects tales of dark magic.”

The trailer looks creepy and fun. My guess is that if you loved the Harry Potter books or “Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell,” this new show is right up your dark alley.

You can watch “Creeped Out” starting October 4.

‘El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie’

Netflix and the producers have kept a lot of the details about this sequel to the award-winning television show “Breaking Bad” close to the chest.

And that’s OK. No spoilers, please!

What we do know is that it follows Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) in the very moments following the incredible outcome in the Breaking Bad series finale.

You’ll have to wait till October 11 to see the rest of the story.

‘Living with Yourself’

This new comedy coming from Netflix in October 2019 stars Paul Rudd who, suffering from middle-life angst, decides to make some changes. After visiting a mysterious “spa,” he discovers that he’s been replaced by a duplicate. Except, this is a better version of himself: smarter, more skilled, better at life, better at work, better at everything.

“Living with Yourself” goes live on October 18.

Notable Family Titles Added

Sometimes, it’s nice to take a break from the drama and watch a nice, uplifting show with the kids. If you’re looking for family-friendly fare, this is what’s cooking at Netflix in October 2019.

‘Legend Quest: Masters of Myth: Season 2’

This cute animated show features Leo San Juan, whose secret talent is that he can see and talk to ghosts. He bands up with his trio of ghost friends to save the world and become super-secret monster hunters.

It’s part comedy and part kiddy-horror, and it’s the first original animated series that Netflix produced in Latin America. No worries about trying to read the fast-moving captions. It broadcasts in English in the United States.

You can watch it starting on October 5.

‘The Spooky Tale of Captain Underpants Hack-a-ween’

If you’ve ever gone to middle school since the late 1990s or been the parent to someone who has, you know who Captain Underpants is. Best of all, there are still more of these delightful books for new readers. And some great movie entertainment as well.

In “The Spooky Tale of Captain Underpants Hack-a-ween,” Melvin works with Principal Krupp to make Halloween illegal. And that just won’t do!
George and Harold get back by creating their own holiday – “Hack-A-Ween.”

And they’ve sure hacked the new rules: Costumes become “disguises,” and kids carve cabbages instead of pumpkins.

Watch this fun kids holiday special starting October 8.

Welcome Returns to Netflix in October 2019

While we can’t always call them classics, Netflix always has plenty of great movies from the last couple of decades. Whether you missed your chance in theatres or just feel a little nostalgic, Netflix is adding some super titles.

‘Men in Black’ (1997)

The original title that had us rolling returns to the stream on October 19. Starring the Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, this sci-fi comedy feels like mash-up of “Dragnet” and “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” (the good one on BBC TV).

Not many people know the movie was based on a comic book, but it shouldn’t surprise you once you’ve seen it.

In “Men in Black,” Agent “K” (Tommy Lee Jones) from the MIB recruits newbie James Edwards (Will Smith) of the New York police to join up and protect the Earth from aliens.

Hijinks ensue.

(“Men in Black II” returns to Netflix on October 1, but they’re best watched in order, so be patient and marathon them both!)

‘Trainspotting’ (1996)

“Trainspotting” isn’t a movie for everyone, but for those who get it, it’s a classic. Ewan McGregor plays Mark Renton, a heroin addict living the low life in Edinburgh until he makes a break to get clean and break out.

Somehow managing to be sad, funny, hopeful, and horrible, “Trainspotting” features iconic scenes, quotable dialogue, and a killer soundtrack.

Horrorshow

And of course, you’re going to want to indulge in the best the season has to offer.

And they’re ready for us, too. They even have a preview video for all the Halloween fare from Netflix in October 2019.

Everything Coming to Netflix in October 2019

Last Chance to Watch on Netflix in October 2019

Netflix is losing some great classic movies in October, and there are a few worth a lost look. So, make some time to check out the list to revisit some of your favorites.

Notable Titles Leaving Netflix in October 2019

Some of these older films come and go, and if you’ve never seen them, you may have waited too long.

I know I’ve put off watching an old favorite or a “want-to-see” film, only to find it’s been pulled.

‘Casanova’ (2005)

Two of the world’s favorite British actors team up in this charming BBC mini-series portraying the life of Casanova. This surprising and heart-warming comedy stars David Tennant and Peter O’Toole as the respectively young and old eponymous character.

Retired and penniless, an old Casanova finds himself telling the tale of his one true love, Henriette, to the young kitchen maid Edith, who works in the castle where he now fills the role of librarian.

Tennant makes a surprisingly sweet and seductive Casanova, and O’Toole is as riveting and graceful as ever. It’s a bittersweet and touching comedy that’s well worth a watch.

Just don’t confuse this with the 2005 movie of the same name starring Heath Ledger.

‘The Imitation Game’

With this world-class cast telling the true and dramatic story of one of history’s most influential people, “The Imitation Game” is a must-see.

“The Imitation Game” tells the story of Cambridge Mathematics professor, Alan Turing, and his race to decode the ciphered messages of the Nazis.

Benedict Cumberbatch impresses, as usual, playing Turing. Add Keira Knightly, Matthew Goode, and Allen Leach, and you’ve got a must-see movie.
