Parenthood Season 6 Plot

Season 6 of Parenthood is a short season of only 13 episodes. This was an effort by NBC to ensure that the show had the opportunity to wrap up its storylines and give itself a proper sendoff. In a further effort to save money, not all of the main characters appear in every episode. The season opens with the revelation that patriarch Zeek is facing a health crisis. His season arc involves facing this crisis as well as reflecting on the life he and his wife Camille created.

Son Adam (Peter Krause) and his wife Kristina (Monica Potter) are racing to open their charter school. Once it comes together and starts running, they face the constant battle of keeping the dream alive as vendors and the families of the students challenge their every move.

Daughter Julia (Erika Christensen) separates from her husband Joel (Sam Jaegar). She must maneuver through her newfound freedom, take care of her children as a co-parent and wonder if she and Joel can’t just work things out.

Son Crosby (Dax Shepard) struggles to keep his business alive. Always one to turn to his family for help, Crosby must make hard decisions about how he can keep his head above water financially.

Daughter Sarah (Lauren Graham) is always there to help her siblings. She also has big decisions to make with regard to Hank (Ray Romano) and she turns to her family for advice.

  • The series is set in Berkeley, California, but most of the filming was done at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. Several exterior scenes and shots filmed in Berkeley, Oakland and Mill Valley, California.
  • The role of Sarah was complicated to cast. Initially, Helen Hunt wanted the job, but was asking NBC for too much money. Next, Maura Tierney was cast, but had to drop out when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Finally, Lauren Graham stepped into the role.
  • Parenthood Season 6 is a lovely sendoff to this show that was inspired by the 1989 film of the same name.
