The Walking Dead Season 6 on Netflix

The Walking Dead Season 6

In its almost six years of runtime, AMC’s television series of the Walking Dead has managed to acquire a much larger fanbase than the original comic series from Kirkman and Moore published by Image Comics. The last episodes of the Walking Dead season 6 have brought the show to the same moment as the 100th issue of the comics.

The Walking Dead Season 6

Season Release Date on Netflix: September 2016
Producer: Frank Darabont
Runtime: 44 minutes
IMDb Rating: 8.5
Season’s Rotten Tomatoes Score: 82%

For those unfamiliar with the series, The Walking Dead mainly focuses on Rick Grimes (played in the show by Andrew Lincoln). As a former sheriff, he wakes up from a coma in a wasteland version of the world he knew. The series starts with Rick trying to find his family and later on puts the spotlight on survival, while the characters try to put together the pieces of what actually happened.

Survival is as much of a main character in The Walking Dead as Rick. The ruined world is littered with the bodies of the dead, reanimated by a virus which makes them lose all consciousness and humanity. The “walkers” are unintelligent. They have no memory of the people they once were. Instead, they have a never-ending hunger that can only be sated by the flesh of living humans.

The Walking Dead Season 6 Synopsis

This Walking Dead Season 6 Trailer was exclusively unveiled at Comic-Con:

Rick Grimes and his nomadic band of survivors are trying to make a life at Alexandria, an isolated gated community. Struggling to capture some semblance of the way life was before the apocalypse proves difficult. Finally, after discovering a horde of thousands of walkers trapped in a quarry nearby, the residents must herd the walkers away from their settlement.

But because this is a dangerous endeavor, it puts everyone’s lives at risk. Despite their efforts, one of Alexandria’s walls goes down and the citizens must gather their strength to defend their homes and their lives from the horde. Most of these people have never had to contend with the walkers before, so Rick’s battle hardened group must do their best to protect them.

During the ordeal, Daryl, Abraham and Sasha have a run in with the big baddies in the neighborhood: A group called The Saviors, who are run by psychopath Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. But he and his group have a stranglehold on the communities in the area, stealing resources and demanding tribute. Now that The Saviors know about Alexandria, they plan to rule with an iron fist. Therefore, the season ends on a huge cliffhanger as the lives of everyone in Rick’s group hang in the balance.

Because this season introduces several notable characters from the comic books, we finally get to meet Paul ‘Jesus’ Monroe portrayed by Tom Payne. Paul is a member of another nearby community called the Hilltop Colony, who is fed up with the violence brought on by Negan and The Saviors. Although the show has always bounced around the comic books, adding and omitting content, the crux of this season takes its inspiration from the 78-100 of the source material.

The cast likes to play pranks on each other. This season Norman Reedus, who has played Daryl since season 1, filled Andrew Lincoln’s trailer with chickens to lighten the mood.
